To install this patch you must already have the Grand Slam version 1.0 installed on your system.

*** NOTE! THIS IS NOT INTENDED FOR THE BETA VERSION OF THE GRAND SLAM***

What this patch does:

1. Fixes the brake issues that have been reported.

2. Adds a new "Sprint" brake option for shorter tracks

If this patch is well recieved I will update the full install of the Grand Slam mod but until it is fully tested it will remain in "patch form" so you will need to download both the full mod AND this patch.

Thanks,
Bob

Here are some comments from Dave Henrie about this patch:

Here is the patch to change the brakes over to the newer ISI format. First the default brakes are as close to the original form with some temp changes based on data from the Pagid brake site. Then the sprint brakes, which are available via the upgrade option, have thinner brake rotors and slightly higher temps. Inertia for the Sprint brakes is reduced slightly and the braking forces are increased. The Sprint brakes added Brake Torque is based upon a comparison of two brakes from Pagid, both are recommended for DP style cars so I just tried to use the same ratios from the web site carried over to the Enduro vs Sprint upgrades.
Some minor inertia settings are reduced for the Sprint brakes and I also changed the AI Torque stabilization values from 1.40 to 1.00. That should make the AI driven cars slightly easier to move offline, but will not affect the human driver.

This patch is easy to install, just unzip the files into your main rf folder and it should do the rest. Click 'Yes' or 'Yes to All' when winzip asks you if you want to overwrite the original files. This DOES replace all the original hdv and dp_upgrade.ini files so back those up before you begin.

This patch, works, but has not been tested for durability. Brakes still need some use to heat them up, I found I could move from the 4 braking marker at Barber's Turn 1 to the 3 brake marker after 1 or 2 laps. Ideal temps are 500°c to 600°c for the Enduros. And 550°c to 650°c. Because of the ISI curve format, the brakes begin to work better as the temps rise. It is more progressive, and not so ON/OFF like the older ISI format.

Thanks, but we were not really looking for praise,

Feedback is really what we were hoping for.

I guess if no one is bitching about it we should take that as a good thing.

The old saying "A quiet customer is a happy customer" applies here I guess...

Well, in any case. Thanks for the patch :D

I will say that I prefered the brakes before. But, I had already adjusted the ai in the mod and in my plr file. I was already able to run nose to tail with the computer into the bus stop on daytona. Now, feels a little to easy. Not that I really know what a DP should feel like. Just my thoughts.
Mod is still great, though. Thank you for all your hard work.

just goes to show that there is no telling for people's preferences

I think the patch is a huge improvement. I only do laps at Daytona occasionally. I like to run these at traditional road courses (Mid Ohio, Road Atlanta, Limerock, Barber, etc...) and this has made it so much better. I did have to change my .plr file for the AI to values closer to default, but once I did that I was running very fun and competitive laps and braking within (imho) a more realistic and reasonable braking zone using the sprint brake upgrade.

This is in my top 3 mods for rF now. Ripping these babies around VLM's new Fuji, for instance, is really great stuff.

thanks for staying with this for so long and then listening to some community input here at the end to bring it home.

It is totally appreciated.

Greg
